Body Conceptions was created by former professional dancer, Mahri Relin who danced in New York City and around the world for over 12 years. It was through dancing and performing that Mahri discovered she also had a passion for fitness and maintaining a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
In Mahri’s signature BoCo Cardio Sculpt class, you will experience cardio and body-sculpting components, involving multiple muscles and require engagement of and connection to your core. Every class will test your limits – but the current, exciting music combined with the energy and joy infused into the workout will make you almost forget you are working so hard!
Body Conceptions is one of my favorite methods in New York City and to take with me while traveling. My 6 week BoCo Challenge was a turning point for my focus on conditioning my body in a way that not only produced physical results but ignited personal empowerment through a fitness-focused lifestyle. – Jane J.
Patina Miller is a Tony Award Winning actress and singer. She also starred as the Leading Player in the 2013 revival of Pippin for which she won the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She is also known for her role as Commander Paylor in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay films, and her series regular role as Daisy Grant on Madam Secretary.
“It all started when I was about to make my Broadway debut and I decided that I wanted to be physically fit to take on the demands of 8 shows a week. I started preparing for that when I was still in London in 2010 and I started working out ferociously. I sought out a nutritionist because I wanted to learn about the foods that would fuel my body and keep me energized but also tone up, lean out, and look fierce. I realized that nutrition played a role in my vocal health… so that I could sing and also treating my body from the inside out. Treating it right… it really played a role in the energy I was able to give in each show. And being strong made it great for me to be able to physically take on the demands of being in such a rigorous show schedule 8 times a week.” – PATINA MILLER
Christopher Rice is currently in the smash hit The Book of Mormon on Broadway. “I think staying in shape and making healthy choices is the only way to make an 8 show week possible. I am continually reminded of the importance of fitness in this business- and not just in the way you look (even though its unfortunately a rather important part of the biz as well)…Some people really just want those six pack abs [but my Physical Therapists] have taught me a lot about the muscles we don’t see and how you need to strengthen those to maintain a healthy and balanced body.” – CHRIS RICE
Kristine Bendul has been in seven Broadway shows. Aside from being nominated for a Helen Hayes award for Movin’ Out, other favorite theater credits include performing Live at Lincoln Center and five Broadway productions with the City Center Encores series. You may even recognize her from NBC’s Smash or most recently, the first episode of Baz Luhrman’s new Netflix show, The Get Down. As a choreographer, Kristine has been creating works for Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS’ highly profiled annual events Easter Bonnet and Broadway Bares Fire Island. She has choreographed for immersive theater, musical showcases, a music video and the International Hustle & Salsa Congress. On August 6th, she was asked to present a piece for The Actor’s Fund benefit Dancers For Good hosted by Bebe Newirth. Her newest achievement however, is as a published children’s book author & illustrator of Noodles Needs A Nap which was inspired by a character she played in Broadway’s Cinderella.
“I use to practice Buddhism. I now… meditate 20 minutes twice a day. It is the first thing I do every morning and it centers me for each day. I can’t control what life throws at me, but meditation grounds me so that in each moment, I can be more aware and choose not to be as affected by life situations because life is always going to happen… [The most physically challenging part of performing is] performing the same repetitive movements eight times a week. It really takes a toll on your body. Even though you are being physical during a performance, I don’t consider the show itself as exercise. One has to be strong and fit before you step on stage each night.” – KRISTINE BENDUL
In this Broadway Mentorship hour, your Broadway Mentor will ignite conversation within your small group around the connection of fitness, health and performance. This is your opportunity to ask questions, receive advice and connect with these inspiring examples of the Fit for Broadway lifestyle.

“We all get caught up in trying to be what we THINK other people want us to be. BUT what people actually want from us is our real personalities. KNOW who you are, and be YOU! Also, continuing to learn and grow is so important. Keep taking class, keep taking voice lessons, keep seeing new and exciting theatre, keep bettering yourself!” – Callan Bergmann

“Someone told me, ‘You can be out of shape, and you can be unemployed, but you can’t be both.’ It’s really hard sometimes to push yourself, especially with the inevitable up and down of this business. Stay focused, work hard, and be as positive and happy as you can be. It takes more than talent to thrive in this industry, and your energy walking into a room can set you apart from everyone else. Everyone’s on their own journey and you have to really experience your own failures and successes in order to learn and grow.” – Casey Garvin
