The Rope is a completely original and new full body workout that will have you drenched in sweat after the first 5 minutes! The 60 minute class burns over 700 calories and creates long, lean muscles with just one prop – the rope. It’s not just jumping – in this class you’ll be using a jump rope in ways you never imagined . Intervals of jumping, dancing, sprinting keep your heart rate up, abs engaged, and body burning fat! Completely unique toning moves using the rope and your body weight whip you into shape and leave your muscles aching.
Amanda Kloots, creator of the Rope, is a former Radio City Rockette, Broadway Dancer, and head trainer at Body by Simone. Amanda developed this method after years of trying different ways to stay in killer shape. She fell in love with the jump rope after discovering it’s the quickest, most effective way to get a full body workout, and spent years creating ways to use it for more than just jumping. And now she’s sharing what she’s learned and prepared to whip you into shape so you can look like a Rockette too!
“Being a dancer I think physical fitness is extremely important. I know that for myself I have to keep in great shape in order to feel like I can give 110% when I perform. You have to find the time [to stay physical fit]! It’s as simple as ten min. a day if that’s all you have. Do something each day. If it’s important to you you’ll find the time.”

Hatha Yoga with Amos Wolff // Amos started practicing Hatha yoga in high school as a supplement to his rigorous dance training, but found he returned to his mat not just to keep his body limber, but also to manage the stress that comes with being a performer. He is a completed his 200-Hour Vinyasa Teacher Training from Laughing Lotus. He strives to teach a balanced class that stretches the mind, body and soul, believing that our mat is symbolic of life: a great place to fall down and try again.
“Back in 2012 I had a pretty public nervous breakdown. This is a really tough business. I had been very successful, very quickly and was pushing myself way too hard, trying to climb an impossible ladder of success I had created for myself. I took a couple months away and while I was re-cooping, I found that yoga held great solace for me. My mat was a safe space for me to fail, something that I had to get to terms with if I was going to perform again. Yoga, and a really good therapist, helped me explore a lot of the emotional and mental walls I had constructed to protect myself. As I slowly chip away at all of obstacles keeping me from being joyful and happy, I find that the same walls I built to protect, confine me instead of supporting me. And ironically, or maybe not, I now find that I am far more successful and grateful for opportunities as both a performer and a human being.”
In this Broadway Mentorship hour, your Broadway Mentor will ignite conversation within your small group around the connection of fitness, health and performance. This is your opportunity to ask questions, receive advice and connect with these inspiring examples of the Fit for Broadway lifestyle.

“Fitness has become such a big part of my everyday life and my career because it’s what keeps me “sane” in this business. I use my day to motivate me at the gym through my workouts. I first started working out consistently after a bad breakup and used it as my type of “therapy” to get over my broken heart. Once I started, it totally engulfed me and I was hungry for more results and feeling good. To me, it’s not all about how I look.. it’s about how I feel. Those are the true results that I love- finishing a workout and feeling like a weight (sometimes quite literally) has been lifted off my shoulders. I feel like I can start my day a little clearer because in a way, I am working out and through my feelings and emotions.”

“My advice [for staying physically fit] is to make it a habit. Don’t try to do anything quickly. Make living healthy a daily effort and soon it will stop feeling like work and begin to feel normal. My advice for anyone trying to perform on broadway would be to never stop knocking down doors. You get knocked down so much in this business. You have to have the strength to pick yourself up and keep moving! “You can do anything you want to do as long as you put your mind to it.” -my dad”

“Growing up in a dance studio keeps you very active from a young age, but in college I started to cross train in the gym. I noticed that I had more strength and it complemented my dance coursework. When I worked for dance companies, I found that becoming a certified trainer was a great way to supplement my income and integrate fitness into my daily lifestyle. I learned so much valuable information about the body that I used with clients and to train myself. The knowledge I gained continues to help me now! [… Also,] Find clarity. Clarity in your mind and body. When I learned to drop all of the extra and excess movement, I began to really understand myself in choreography and how to tell stories in movement.”

“My favorite Broadway moment to date has been opening Hamilton. Not just because it’s a musical that is making history but because it ushers in a new era of Broadway showgirls. Traditionally showgirls have been thought to have incredibly long legs, super skinny, and very very tall. The ensemble ladies probably consisted of caucasian women with one ethnic female amongst them. However, take a look of what makes up the Hamilton female ensemble. We are made up of four average height females with athletic builds. We are 2 Caucasian women and 2 ethnic women, all unique in our own way. Throughout the show we portray both feminine and masculine. I believe that the statement our show makes to the Broadway community is that to be strong is beautiful! And what a fabulous statement! When I first started auditioning in New York City, I thought that being thin would give me a leg up. In truth all that being exceptionally skinny did for me was make me tired and sick all the time. I’ve since learned that being fit, being healthy, and taking care of my body is one of the most important parts of my job as a performer.”
