On the 9th Day of Broadway, we are focused on putting our best fitness-foot forward into 2017 (bonus points if you fan-kick your way into the new year)!
I sent my best friend, Cassie, a meme last night of two cats trying to jump on a moving treadmill over and over again (*failing miserably*) with the caption “Trying to get back on track after the Holidays like…” Can I get some jazz hands from anyone who has been there?!
Working out is smushed on the priority list between sleeping, eating, more eating, trying to be an ambitious goal setter for 2017, family time, and more sleeping. It’s such a funky time for our schedules and usually just about everything takes our attention away from working out and leading our FFB lifestyles. Even when the New Year starts, our attention is being pulled in a million new directions as we ambitiously set fire to our New Year’s resolutions & intentions.
In an effort to move toward a few of my intentions for 2017, like focus and grounding, I made sure I had a plan of attack for this holiday season and New Years. I snatched up a great 5 pack deal for a local fitness studio in New Orleans, where I’m spending the holidays, and also made sure my at-home workouts were as exciting as the chocolate cake my mom made for Christmas Eve.
You guys know I am a #superfan of online fitness videos and rely on streaming workouts when I’m traveling or can’t make it to a class. They’re super trendy, super affordable (or Free!), and FFB-Approved. Plus, they’re the perfect pieces for creating a full body workout puzzle!
How-To Build Your Workout from Online Fitness Videos
Rule #1: Aim for 1 hour total
Rule #2: Pick 5-6 videos. (each video should be about 10 mins total) — search youtube for a treasure chest of free fitness videos! (I used THIS as a guide)
Rule #3: Each video should focus on a specific body part or purpose.
IE: “10 minute Arm Sculpting” and “12 minutes of mat cardio (not equipment necessary!)”
Rule #4: Variety is KEY! This is a fun time to experiment with methods you’ve never tried or don’t usually do like dance cardio, barre or pilates!
Rule #5: Take advantage of social media and #fitspo!! Fitness Studios and your favorite Broadway stars, models, actors share their tips for staying fit constantly on social media!
Rule #7: (optional): Set yourself up with a few (cheap!) fitness equipment that will help you get the most out of your workout. HERE are my picks!
Rule #8: Don’t let distractions discourage you, roll with the punches (literally if you’re working on your shadow boxing!)
IE: My niece wanted to dance along with me during my Body By Simone dance cardio and made it so much more fun! Her energy was the boost I needed to get through a few more songs! Plus, she started mimicking me on my floor work #babypushups so cute! She even wanted us to wear her princess dress up box from Santa so we did and let me tell you, angel wings and a tiara make you feel like a workout queen.
Rule #9: Document your workout! #FitforBroadway It always feels satisfying to share some sweaty holiday selfies with friends and fam to showcase your awesome training for Broadway lifestyle 🙂 Maybe you’ll even inspire them to get moving and grooving!
Does anyone else have any holiday-healthy-hacks? Or ways to stay fitness motivated through the holidays and New Year?
